JEFFREY SWANN enjoyed an international performing career which has taken him
throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. He won first prize
in Dino Ciani Competition sponsored by La Scala in Milan, a gold medal at the
Queen Elisabeth Competition and top honors in competitions in Warsaw, Lisbon,
and Montreal. In addition he was winner of the Young Concert Artists auditions in
New York City. His large and varied repertoire includes more than 60 concertos,
as well as solo works ranging from Bach to Boulez. He has also performed
chamber music in festivals all over the world , collaborating with many of the most
prominent artists of his generation.
In addition to presenting lecture/recitals worldwide, Mr. Swann has performed with
major orchestras such as the symphonies of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Dallas,
Houston, St. Louis and many others; in Europe he has performed with the
orchestras of Rome Santa Cecilia, Milan La Scala, London Philharmonia, Radio
France, , the Czech Philharmonic, Rotterdam, Brussels, Berlin, Munich, Warsaw,
among many others. The conductors with whom he has performed include
Zdenek Macal, David Robertson, Leonard Slatkin, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Marek
Janowski, William Steinberg, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, and Myung-Whun
Chung.
Jeffrey Swann is a highly respected professor of piano. He is currently Artist
Faculty at New York University and was for many years Artist in Residence at
Northern Arizona University. He has been on the juries of many international
competitions, both in the USA and abroad, and has given numerous masterclasses
all over the world.
Jeffrey Swann is also an internationally renowned Wagner scholar, He lectures
throughout the Unites States, illustrating from the piano, and has been a frequent
guest lecturer at the Bayreuth Festival. He has written extensively on Wagner,
including an article on Wagner and Proust, published by Oxford University Press.
In 2025 he published a major work, “The Music of the Ring”, available on Amazon
and at Barnes & Noble.
Jeffrey Swann studied with Alexander Uninsky in Dallas and subsequently at the
Juilliard School with Beveridge Webster and Adele Marcus, where he received his
B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. with highest honors. He has made dozens of recordings
for Deutsche Gramophone, RCA Italia, Music & Arts, Bridge, Fonit-Cetra, and
Agora. His recordings are now available online through NAR Classical.
Jeffrey Swann was Artistic Director of the Dino Ciani Festival and Accademia, in
Cortina, Italy, as well as Artistic Director of the Concerts of the Scuola Normale in
Pisa.
